BigBoy3 Sets the Standard for High Security Ground Anchors

Secure Your Valuable Motorbike with the BigBoy3 Ground Anchor

Our widely acclaimed Big Boy telescopic ground anchor is now at version 3. Read our latest blog to learn more.

Here at Insight Security we are immensely proud of our robust, standard-setting Big Boy high security ground anchor. Originally launched back in 2019 and achieving Sold Secure certification in 2020, our Big Boy ground anchor is now extensively relied upon by motorcyclists and others, to keep their valuable motorbikes and equipment safe and secure.

What?s New with the BigBoy3?

The new BigBoy3 version of this mighty telescopic ground anchor retains all of the benefits of its predecessors. The telescopic design means the ground anchor retracts into the ground so that it doesn?t present a trip hazard and can be safely driven over. This has allowed the Big Boy to be installed in many driveways, garages and shared parking areas where protruding ground anchors would simply not be suitable.

And the BigBoy3 is made from the same high quality steel that has withstood seriously aggressive angle grinder attacks that wore out angle grinder disks, without coming anywhere near overcoming the ground anchor. The base anchor plate, along with a robust 16mm bolt, lock the ground anchor into its surrounding concrete substrate and the steel is protected with a corrosion resistant galvanised coating along with a final, baked on black powder coat finish.

The primary enhancement with the BigBoy3 is the size and shape of the secure chain guide. Ground anchor chain aperture size dictates the maximum size of security chain that can be used and the size of the security chain is an important security attribute. Basically, the beefier the chain, the greater the security. The new BigBoy3 has a chain aperture size that will now accommodate high security chains up to and including ultra-tough 19mm sleeved chains from all manufacturers.

This feature enables to the BigBoy3 ground anchor to be used with high security chains that have achieved ?Sold Secure Powered Cycle Gold? accreditation. These include, for example, our 16mm and 19mm Squire Protector chains.

Sold Secure Diamond Accreditation

Like its predecessors, our new BigBoy3 has undergone rigorous testing and approval from Sold Secure labs and has been awarded: Powered Cycle (formerly Motorcycle) Diamond grading.

Every security product category, assessed by Sold Secure labs, has ratings from Bronze to Diamond. These describe the level of security offered by the evaluated product. ?Diamond? rated security products, such as the BigBoy3, have been verified to the highest level of security.

In practice, what this means is the BigBoy3 has been subjected to a variety of highly aggressive attacks using a range of attack techniques, known to be used by criminals. These include walloping the ground anchor with a sledge-hammer and attempting to cut through it with an angle grinder. The BigBoy3 has successfully withstood all of these attacks, enabling it to be graded as an ultra-high security device, ideal for use in high risk areas to protect high value equipment such as motorbikes, ATVs, plant and machinery.

BigBoy3 Installation

The Big Boy ground anchor is a concrete-in anchor which requires the excavation of suitably sized hole. The relatively small size of the Big Boy means it doesn?t have a large footprint, enabling it to be installed in confined spaces. The minimum requirement is a hole that?s 300mm deep and 200 x 200mm square (just 8 x 8 inches). For drainage, the ground anchor needs to sit on some hardcore and then firmly set in place using a ?3-2-1? mix of aggregate, sand and cement.

Concrete is typically hard enough for foot traffic after curing for 24-48 hours. But it can take up to around one week for concrete to be cured enough to handle heavy loads. Generally, concrete is considered to have reached its full strength after 28 days.

BigBoy3 In Use

When not in use, the telescopic Big Boy ground anchor is fully retracted into the top plate that sits flush with the surrounding concrete. In this state the ground anchor can be walked on and driven over without risk of trips or damage.

The Big Boy is accessed for use by means of the finger-handle on the top. Recesses in the top plate enable the retracted handle to be easily gripped and the telescopic anchor opened up for use. A high security chain of up to 19mm is then easily threaded through the secure chain guide and wrapped around the motorbike, ATV or piece of machinery that needs to be securely anchored in place.

Who Uses the Big Boy Ground Anchor?

As well as gaining the highest possible Sold Secure product grading our Big Boy ground anchor has received significant praise from Bennetts Bike Social - the goto resource for serious motorcyclists. Many motorbike enthusiasts now rely on their Big Boy ground anchors to keep their valuable bikes secure, both at home and at work. Some workplaces have considerately installed Big Boy ground anchors into their parking areas for the benefit of staff who ride their motorbikes to work.

Our robust Big Boy ground anchor is also widely appreciated in agricultural establishments where the anchors are being used to secure ATVs and farm machinery. Many people who recognise the security benefits of locking valuable equipment to immovable, concrete-in ground anchors, are appreciating the strength and reliability of our Big Boy.
